Mahanandini Masjid is a mosque in the old quarters of Hyderabad, India. It was built at the time of Abbasili Mosque in 1753, by Nawab Quli Khan Afshar. Inside the mosque are inscribed the names of 365 mosques built or repaired by him across Persia and India. The design of this mosque is unique because it connects two courtyards with two arches instead of four, thus allowing for wider prayer spaces. The roof has an octagonal shape to facilitate ventilation during summer months. In the courtyard of the mosque two octagonal columns have been set into a solid stone base. A marble enclosure around the columns has been constructed as a prayer niche. In the ground floor only, the arched entrances have been made with brass on a stone base, whereas in upper floors the entrances have been made with concrete on brick slabs. The roof is supported by four large domed arches which are combined with smaller ones on their edges to form a continuous dome. The dome is decorated with a pattern of tiles, floral patterns and plasterwork. In order to facilitate better ventilation during summer months, an octagonal shape is chosen for this mosque's roof. The octagonal shape is also used instead of the four arches, in order to allow for wider prayer spaces in the prayer rooms.
